Husband Arrested for Murder After Falsely Claiming ICE Took Missing Wife

A Sacramento man has been arrested on murder charges in connection with his wife's death, after initially claiming that federal immigration authorities had taken her into custody. Jasmine Gill, 30, was reported missing by her cousin on Oct. 4, having last been seen at her home on Sept. 30.

Her husband, Gurinder Gill, told authorities that Jasmine had been taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents while she was collecting mail outside their residence. However, investigators soon found inconsistencies in his account.

As the investigation progressed, detectives with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office determined that the couple was involved in an ongoing divorce and child custody dispute. Their suspicions grew, leading to the discovery of burned human remains in El Dorado County on Oct. 1.

Authorities later confirmed that the remains belonged to Jasmine Gill. Following this discovery, homicide detectives secured an arrest warrant for Gurinder Gill. He was arrested on Oct. 14 and is currently being held without bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail.

Jasmine Gill, a registered nurse, was attempting to build a new life for herself and her 8-month-old son. Her family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help return her remains to India, support her son, and cover legal expenses. A statement from her family expressed their grief, noting that she was murdered before she could establish the future she was fighting for.
