Husband Admits Murdering Wife Found in Freezer
David Barraclough pleads guilty to killing Carolann Barraclough, whose body was discovered weeks after her death.
David Barraclough, 45, has pleaded guilty to the murder of his wife, Carolann Barraclough, 37. The mother of three died from blunt force head trauma between February 19 and February 21, according to an inquest. Her body was discovered in a freezer at their shared home in West Yorkshire on March 6, approximately two weeks after her death, following concerns for her welfare.
Barraclough entered his guilty plea on Tuesday, the first day of a scheduled trial at Leeds Crown Court. He had been expected to deny the charge and claim diminished responsibility, but admitted the murder when formally asked.
Judge Andrew Stubbs KC ordered Barraclough to be held in custody ahead of a further hearing on Wednesday. Sentencing is anticipated to be adjourned to allow for the preparation of pre-sentence reports, which will include an examination of his mental health.
Following Mrs. Barraclough's death, tributes were left at her home, including a message that described her as a "beautiful and amazing sister."
