Husband Accused of Murdering Wife with 'Hit List' Detailing Her Death
Roger Bradford allegedly planned his wife Lisa's killing, detailing the timeline in a journal before carrying out the act at their Virginia mansion.
Roger Bradford, 60, faces charges including second-degree murder after allegedly killing his wife, Lisa Bradford, 54, at their $1.4 million mansion in Aldie, Virginia, on September 22. Prosecutors claim there is clear evidence of premeditation, pointing to a journal found in Bradford's car that allegedly detailed his plan to kill his wife.
The journal reportedly contained a list of individuals Bradford intended to kill, with one entry stating, "Lisa was to be killed on Tuesday." According to court documents, Bradford was arrested in Pennsylvania after fleeing the Virginia home. He was extradited to Virginia and appeared in court this week.
Investigators believe Bradford purchased zip ties and drove a rental car to the family home on the morning of the killing. Lisa Bradford was found deceased in an upstairs bedroom with her hands bound behind her back. Multiple bullet casings were discovered at the scene, but the handgun believed to have been used in the crime has not been recovered.
Authorities were alerted to the incident when Bradford allegedly called his sister-in-law around noon on the day of the murder, stating he had killed his wife. He reportedly also mentioned suicidal intentions and asked his sister to collect their minor daughter to prevent her from finding her mother. Instead, Bradford fled the state, leading authorities on a pursuit through Maryland into Pennsylvania, where he was apprehended by state police.
Court filings reveal the couple's marriage had been under severe strain. Bradford had previously served 20 months in federal prison for wire fraud and, in a declaration filed earlier this year, wrote that his conviction had devastated his finances, impacted his mental health, and contributed to the marital difficulties. He described the prospect of divorce as "too much to bear."
Friends of Lisa Bradford remembered her as a devoted mother and a realtor known for her strong client relationships. A vigil was held in her memory, where a friend described her as "a light in our lives."
Bradford has indicated a desire to represent himself in court and requested to move a bond hearing scheduled for October 28, as it would have fallen on Lisa's birthday. He is currently being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
