Huntington Beach, California, known as Surf City USA, drew more than 500,000 patriotic Americans for its 122nd Annual Fourth of July celebration, recognized as the largest Independence Day event west of the Mississippi River. The multi-day festivities featured a vibrant parade and concluded with a fireworks spectacle over the Pacific Ocean.
The centerpiece of the celebration was the 2.5-mile parade along Pacific Coast Highway, where American flags, classic cars, and horseback riders filled the streets. Spectators lined the route, many adorned in patriotic attire, to watch the procession.
Attendees expressed enthusiasm for the annual event. "It’s amazing. Huntington Beach, Fourth of July, there’s nothing like it," said Katie Jarrett, who has attended the celebration since childhood. "I’ve been coming here since I was a little girl and this is just my most favorite day of the whole year."
Another attendee, Carolyn Jesse, highlighted the event's significance for celebrating both country and community. "I feel blessed and privileged to live in America, and to be at the largest celebration west of the Mississippi," Jesse stated. "God bless America."
Despite the significant crowds and the economic benefits for local businesses, the City of Huntington Beach incurs operational costs that result in a net financial loss for staging the annual celebration.
