Hunter Biden, in a recent appearance on the podcast "Dopey," described instances where his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, visited him at his home, which he referred to as a "crack den," accompanied by the Secret Service. Biden stated that his father would arrive with a motorcade, though he attempted to make it as small as possible.
During these visits, Hunter Biden said he would see the motorcade pull up, his father exit with Secret Service agents, and then hear a knock on the door. He described his father asking about future plans, to which he would respond that he had a plan. He also mentioned that his father may have encountered his roommate, a man known as "Bicycles," whom Hunter Biden had sought out to buy crack cocaine and who subsequently moved in with him.
These revelations stem from Hunter Biden's ongoing public discussions about his past struggles with addiction. He recounted a period in 2018 when he embarked on a "crack road trip" to Los Angeles, eventually checking into the Chateau Marmont hotel, a stay that lasted nearly two months. He described this period as an attempt to end his life, noting that the hotel was where John Belushi had died of an overdose. He indicated that he was often surrounded by individuals such as drug dealers and sex workers, as they were less likely to pressure him into treatment or legal repercussions.
Despite his active addiction during this time, Hunter Biden stated that he never became financially broke. He attributed this to residual income, including his role on the board of Burisma, the Ukrainian energy company. He explained that he joined the Burisma board while his father was Vice President and continued for three years afterward, with the board requirement being to attend four meetings annually, which he was able to do even while struggling with addiction.
Hunter Biden has been on a public tour discussing his past, appearing on various podcasts and media outlets since becoming sober. His 2021 memoir, "Beautiful Things," also details his experiences with drug use, including an anecdote about mistaking parmesan cheese for crack cocaine at the Chateau Marmont and learning to cook crack during his stay there.
