Human remains were discovered near the Arizona home of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has stated there is currently no indication that the remains are connected to the ongoing missing person case of Nancy Guthrie.

The remains were found in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard, a location about 15 miles from Guthrie's Tucson home. According to law enforcement officials, the remains appeared to have been at the site for an extended period.

Deputies were observed at the discovery site on Monday, as well as near a private road and a residence at the top of a driveway. The exact date the remains were first found is unclear.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing from her Tucson home on February 1. Her disappearance has continued to baffle investigators, with no arrests made and no suspects publicly identified.

Savannah Guthrie has previously described the months since her mother’s disappearance as "agony and unending trauma." In July, she told Arizona outlet KOLD, "There is not a moment that goes by that we aren’t actively trying to find our mom."

The Pima County Sheriff's office, led by Sheriff Chris Nanos, has faced criticism regarding the handling of the case, with some alleging that early leads were missed. The sheriff has previously defended his department's actions.
