Hull College to Host Conference on Space Industry Workforce Development
The event will convene leaders from industry, education, and the space sector to address future skills needs and workforce diversity.
Hull College is set to host a conference focused on developing the workforce for the burgeoning space industry. The event, scheduled for October 8, will bring together key figures from industry, education, and the space sector to discuss the skills required for the industry's growth over the next five to ten years.
A central theme of the conference will be the development of a more diverse workforce. College principal Debra Gray highlighted the broader spectrum of roles within the space sector beyond traditional perceptions of astronauts and scientists. "There is a huge amount of ambition around the growth of the UK space sector, but ultimately that ambition can only be realised if we have the people with the skills to deliver it," Gray stated.
Gray emphasized the role of further education in meeting these needs, noting its capacity to "make a significant contribution" through its "scale, reach and technical expertise." She added, "Talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn't, and we want to make sure people from every background can see that there could be a place for them in this industry."
The conference, titled "The Workforce Beneath the Satellites: Building the UK's Space Workforce Together," will be held as part of World Space Week.
