Hull City Draws Everton 2-2 Amidst Club Sale Uncertainty and Transfer Window Woes

Hull City and Everton played to a 2-2 draw at the MKM Stadium, a result that continues Everton's unbeaten start to the season despite a turbulent week for the club. The match, which ignited in an exhilarating second half after a goalless first 45 minutes, saw Hull take the lead through Joe Gelhardt, only for Everton to respond with goals from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry. Mohamed Belloumi ultimately salvaged a point for the home side with a well-struck equalizer.

The draw capped a difficult few days for Everton, with confirmation arriving Friday morning that the Friedkin Group (TFG), who took over the club 22 months ago, are seeking to sell. This news follows a challenging transfer window that saw the team's top scorer Beto and prized asset Iliman Ndiaye depart. Attempts to sell highly-rated teenager Harrison Armstrong were reportedly thwarted by fan protests. Manager David Moyes was left with a squad of just 18 outfield players and one striker.

Despite the off-field uncertainty and squad limitations, Everton has maintained its unbeaten Premier League record. The team's ability to come from behind during the second half against Hull demonstrates resilience, although they did let a lead slip.

Gelhardt, a boyhood Liverpool fan and Hull's opener, celebrated his 48th-minute goal, but Everton equalized seven minutes later with a header from Dewsbury-Hall. Barry then put Everton ahead with 22 minutes remaining. However, Hull, under manager Sergej Jakirovic, showed spirit, with Belloumi firing home the equalizer in the 74th minute.

The first half featured several half-chances, and Everton's Brennan Johnson had a goal disallowed for offside after a VAR review. Hull employed an uncompromising style, with midfielder Matt Crooks receiving a booking for a cynical challenge on Jack Grealish.

Following the break, Hull took the lead when Oli McBurnie assisted Sorba Thomas, whose pass set up Gelhardt to chip over Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Everton's comeback began with Dewsbury-Hall's header from an Ainsley Maitland-Niles cross. The go-ahead goal came after a misplaced pass from Hull's Thomas gifted possession to Everton, allowing Barry to score.

Hull's determination was evident as Elliot Stroud set up Belloumi for the equalizer, firing home from 12 yards. The result preserved Hull's unbeaten home record for the season, while Everton remains undefeated overall.
