Hugo, a Shire horse residing in Towcester, has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's tallest living horse. Officials from the record-keeping organization approached Tove Valley Shire Horses after Hugo gained local fame for his exceptional size.
Liam Masters, who acquired Hugo at 18 months old, noted that he had no initial indication of the horse's unusually large stature. Hugo is still in his growing phase and is expected to continue developing until he is about eight and a half years old, with his current age noted as a "baby" in horse terms. Masters anticipates that Hugo's considerable size may present challenges, requiring careful management.
To support Hugo's growth and well-being, a dedicated care regimen is in place. This includes regular visits from a chiropractor and dentist, along with frequent veterinary check-ups due to his hyperactive growing plates. Hugo also receives supplements and adheres to a specific feeding plan. Masters described Hugo as living a "five-star lifestyle" with all his needs met.
The Shire horse breed is a passion for Masters, who specializes in these large equines. Hugo's rapid growth trajectory means his full height is yet to be determined, but he has already achieved this significant world record.
