British actor Hugh Grant's appearance at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding at Madison Square Garden sparked fan curiosity, but his presence is rooted in a friendship with Swift that began in 2024.

Swift's wedding to Kelce was a star-studded event, with an estimated 1,000 guests in attendance, including close friends like Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, and Gigi Hadid, as well as many of Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs teammates. Grant, accompanied by his wife Anna Eberstein, was among the notable attendees.

The friendship between Grant and Swift dates back to June 2024, when Grant, his wife, and one of their daughters attended Swift's Eras Tour stop at London's Wembley Stadium. Following the concert, Grant posted on X (formerly Twitter) praising Swift's show, her team, and Kelce, whom he humorously referred to as her "excellent if gigantic boyfriend."

Grant's tweet, which garnered millions of views, eventually caught Swift's attention. She responded, calling the tweet "very important to my culture" as a "long time Hugh Grant stan."

Later, Swift recounted an anecdote on NBC's Late Night with Seth Meyers about an encounter involving Kelce, Grant, and Eberstein. During the Eras Tour in London, Swift had informed Kelce that director Greta Gerwig would be present, a director Kelce admires. Kelce, after consuming several drinks, mistook Eberstein for Gerwig and complimented her on the movie Barbie, which Gerwig directed. Grant and Eberstein were mistaken for Gerwig and her partner by Kelce, leading to a humorous mix-up that Swift later clarified.

Despite the initial confusion, the connection between Grant and Swift appears to have solidified. Eberstein, 47, was seen at the wedding in a black and red halterneck dress, while Grant wore a tuxedo. The couple reportedly stayed late into the reception, with Grant seen without his bowtie by the end of the night.

Swift and Kelce's wedding was officially announced through video advertisements at Madison Square Garden that read "JUST&T MARRIED!" Both wore Christian Dior. Adam Sandler served as the officiant. Swift's brother Austin was the "man of honor," and Kelce's brother Jason was the best man. The venue was decorated with an old-fashioned fairground theme, and guests received tickets for a chance to win prizes. Paul McCartney was a surprise performer, singing "I Wanna Hold Your Hand."
