Howe, Nagelsmann on Manchester United's Radar if Carrick Sacked
Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann are reportedly among the early contenders to take over at Manchester United should Michael Carrick be dismissed.
Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann are emerging as early contenders to become the next Manchester United head coach if Michael Carrick loses his job. Carrick's position at Old Trafford is under significant pressure following the club's poor start to the season, and work to identify his successor is believed to be underway.
Sources indicate that both Howe and Nagelsmann are prominent on the list of candidates the club has explored. Both managers are reportedly aware of Manchester United's interest.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is also admired at United, but his existing contract is seen as a complication for any potential move. Howe, Nagelsmann, and Antonio Conte, who has expressed interest in the role, are currently out of work, which would simplify their appointments.
Former Newcastle boss Howe is said to be fully open to joining Manchester United if Carrick is dismissed. Nagelsmann is available after concluding his tenure as Germany head coach following the World Cup. Conte, who has also been linked with Juventus, is reportedly open to returning to football after leaving Napoli in May.
Should Carrick be removed from his position, Manchester United, the 20-time English top-flight champions, would be seeking to appoint their eighth permanent manager or head coach since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure in 2013, after which the club won its most recent title.
