Houston Anchor Tanji Patton Updates Fans on Breast Cancer Recovery
Beloved TV personality shares that her healing process is taking longer than anticipated, leaning into faith and a new podcast direction.
Houston television personality Tanji Patton, host of the food and wine show "Goodtaste with Tanji," has shared an update on her breast cancer recovery, stating that the process is taking longer than she initially expected.
Patton, 67, announced in July that she had been diagnosed with a malignant tumor. In an update on Monday, she told fans that she is learning to adapt to unexpected delays in her healing journey. "I am nowhere near the control panels on this flight, and the unexpected delays and detours are something I'm learning to lean into, but it's not always easy," Patton said.
She had previously undergone multiple surgeries and was encouraged by doctors to pursue endocrine therapy after learning she would not need chemotherapy or radiation. While her surgeon anticipated a positive report and the removal of several stitches, those expectations were not met.
"A reminder I'm not in control," Patton stated. "I can't will something to be, so the stitches stay in for now. Healing is happening but just not as fast as I want it to."
Patton has found strength in her faith during this period, describing the experience as a "beautiful journey, even with all the bumps along the way." Her update was met with numerous messages of support from fans who commended her resilience and shared prayers for her continued healing.
Just weeks before her cancer diagnosis, Patton announced that the 11th season of "Goodtaste with Tanji" would be its last. She plans to transition the show into a faith-based podcast called "Goodtaste for the Soul." Patton previously spent 17 years at News 4 San Antonio, where she began as a host before moving into an anchor role.
