House Speaker Mike Johnson, an alumnus of Louisiana State University, has commented on the ongoing dispute between his alma mater and the Southeastern Conference (SEC), suggesting he might intervene. Johnson indicated a willingness to visit SEC officials or act as a mediator as the conference prepares to debate LSU's membership status.

"I thought about that," Johnson told The Post on Wednesday. "I’d like to have a conversation. It is in the middle of litigation right now, so I don’t know what my ethical lines are there."

The controversy stems from an attempt by LSU's new coach, Lane Kiffin, to field players who had signed contracts with NFL teams as undrafted rookies. Kiffin later withdrew the plan under pressure.

Johnson expressed a desire for a resolution, stating, "I would not mind being a mediator there. I think cooler heads need to prevail. We need to let LSU be LSU and play our games."

His remarks come ahead of a scheduled Thursday meeting where SEC leaders are expected to potentially vote on revoking LSU's membership. Johnson commented that LSU had taken the appropriate step by initiating legal action to determine the legality of the situation.
