House Speaker Mike Johnson Eyes Lawn Business If GOP Loses House Majority
The top House Republican suggested a potential career shift if his party fails to retain control of the chamber.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has indicated he might start a lawn care business if the Republican party loses its majority in the House of Representatives. Johnson, who would no longer be speaker in such a scenario, shared this potential career pivot in a recent interview.
"Heaven forbid, if we lose this majority or whatever, I don’t know what my next chapter of life is," Johnson told Fox News reporter Aishah Hasnie. He added, "If God moves on our hearts and says we should, you know, go back to my hometown of Shreveport and start a lawn business, I’ll do that with equal fervor. I mean, I just want to be of my highest and best use... to God and to my country."
The comments come amid projections suggesting Democrats could regain control of the House, partly due to Donald Trump's declining popularity with voters. Hasnie shared a clip of Johnson's remarks on X, formerly Twitter. It remains unclear whether Johnson's statement was intended humorously or seriously, as his office did not immediately respond to a request for clarification.
