Battle and Grief on Dragonstone
Following the naval and aerial conflict in the Gullet, the Triarchy forces are decimated, with Baela Targaryen on dragonback turning pirates into charcoal. However, this victory comes at a profound cost for the "Team Black" faction. Baela returns to Dragonstone with the body of her betrothed, Prince Jacaerys, draped across her saddle. Queen Rhaenyra, overcome by grief, questions her heir's actions in a scene flooded with her weeping.
Shifting Alliances and Prophecies
News of Jacaerys' death reaches Daemon Targaryen in the Riverlands, where he is celebrating battlefield victories with Roddy the Ruin. The impending reunion with Rhaenyra prompts Roddy to march south to meet "Team Black" at the city, while Harrenhal is garrisoned by Rivermen under Ser Oscar Tulley. Daemon departs on Caraxes, but not before an encounter with Alys Rivers, who speaks of looming omens. Meanwhile, Aemond "One-Eye" steers Vhagar toward Harrenhal.
Alicent's Gambit
In King's Landing, Queen Alicent prepares for Rhaenyra's arrival. She tests the loyalty of Commander Luthor Largent of the Gold Cloaks and confides in Helaena, who is technically queen in the absence of Aemond and Aegon. Alicent enlists Helaena's aid in a plan for them to flee the city and escape the conflict, telling her daughter, "You, I may yet redeem." However, Alicent's secret mission is nearly exposed when Ser Rickard reports her to Lord Jasper "Ironrod" Wylde, Aegon's Master of Laws. Maester Orwyle intervenes before Wylde can assault Alicent.
Daemon's Visions and Rhaenyra's Resolve
Upon Daemon's arrival at Dragonstone, he shares his own recent revelations with Rhaenyra. He speaks of ancient prophecies he witnessed at Harrenhal, describing "the darkness in the north" and a "girl with silver hair in a desert far away, and there were dragons at her breast," which he connects to "The Song of Ice & Fire." These visions, coupled with Rhaenyra's grief, galvanize her. Setting aside her council's concerns, she prepares to fly with Daemon to King's Landing, with cover from Ulf on Silverwing and Hugh Hammer on Vermithor, to ensure Alicent's promises are kept.
Aemond's Assault and Rhaenyra's Claim
As Rhaenyra and Daemon travel south, Aemond on Vhagar heads north to Harrenhal. He sets fire to the garrison, crumbling the castle. Inside the main hall, Aemond confronts and kills Ser Simon Strong and two of his sons, though not before one son manages to wound the prince under his armor. Alys Rivers is present as Aemond loses consciousness.
In King's Landing, Rhaenyra and Daemon land their dragons on the parapets and infiltrate the Red Keep. Commander Largent and his Gold Cloaks pledge allegiance to Daemon. Rhaenyra faces Otto Hightower, the former Hand of the King. Following Daemon's encouragement to show no weakness, Rhaenyra executes Otto, severing his head with two strikes. Alicent and Helaena arrive shortly after, detained while attempting to flee the city. The two queens face each other as Rhaenyra takes her place on the Iron Throne, a scene reflecting the costly peace they brokered.
Fugitives and Survivors
Meanwhile, Aegon and Larys Strong remain on the run. After their captors are attacked, Aegon and Larys escape and set Rook's Rest as their destination, aware that Rhaenyra will be hunting them. Elsewhere, Rhaena, seeking refuge after the Battle of the Gullet, is granted asylum by Lady Jeyne Arryn in the Vale, as the region offers protection from Vhagar. Lord Corlys Velaryon, having lost his fortune and High Tide, offers Alyn his name as his sole inheritance, which Alyn accepts with grace.
