House GOP Unveils Midterm Messaging Strategy Focused on Key Voter Concerns

House Republican leaders have outlined a four-week messaging strategy for the upcoming November midterm elections, focusing on four key issues: border security, the economy, public safety, and the use of taxpayer dollars. The plan aims to rally support as the party seeks to maintain its majority in Congress.

According to a memo obtained by Fox News Digital, the strategy encourages Republican lawmakers to highlight what they perceive as failures of Democratic policies. House GOP Chairwoman Lisa McClain, R-Mich., stated that these issues are of paramount importance to voters. "I think these are the points that the voters actually care most about," McClain told Fox News Digital. "[Democrats] want open borders. They want to defund the police, they want to take more money out of your pocket and give it to somebody else. They believe in bigger government. We believe in people... So those are the things that we're really hammering home during this election."

The Republican strategy will address the economy, encouraging incumbents and candidates to discuss "putting more money back in Americans' pockets and creating more opportunities to get ahead through hard work, ownership, and economic freedom." The memo notes that high grocery and gas prices have become central issues in the election cycle. McClain asserted that while challenges remain, the alternative to the GOP's economic approach is "terrifying," referencing high inflation under the current administration and increased taxes.

Regarding border security, the GOP memo urges Republicans to discuss "protecting America by stopping illegal immigration, enforcing our laws, and knowing who is entering the country." McClain contrasted this with Democratic stances, pointing to policies like abolishing police and supporting sanctuary jurisdictions. She emphasized the Republican belief in supporting legal immigration while ensuring proper vetting.

Public safety is another core tenet of the GOP's message. The party plans to contrast its stance with what they describe as far-left calls to "defund the police."

The strategy also targets the use of taxpayer dollars, framing it as a point of difference with Democrats' perceived preference for larger government programs.

The messaging push comes as Republicans face a challenging electoral landscape. A recent Fox News poll indicated that Democrats have a clearer path to victory in the House, requiring fewer wins in toss-up races to secure a majority compared to Republicans. The poll projected Democrats winning 215 seats to the GOP's 201, with 19 toss-up races remaining. Republicans would need to win at least 17 of these close contests to retain control.
