The owner of the Hind Hotel has appeared in court facing multiple health and safety charges following the death of Olly Marmon, fiancé of Union J singer Jaymi Hensley, who fell from a hotel window in August 2024. Marcus de Lannoy Holden, 57, appeared at Northampton Magistrates' Court on charges brought by North Northamptonshire Council.
Marmon, 33, died from head injuries after falling approximately 30 feet from a third-floor window of the hotel in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. The incident occurred on August 12, 2024, while Marmon was staying at the hotel with Hensley. Emergency services responded to the scene but were unable to save Marmon, who was pronounced dead at the location.
Court documents reveal Holden is charged with failing to ensure that openable windows did not pose a health and safety risk. A further charge alleges he contravened an improvement notice by not conducting a risk assessment of the hotel's windows to prevent falls. Additionally, Holden faces charges related to failing to ensure the health and safety of his employees and protecting them from workplace risks.
Holden entered no plea and was granted bail. His case was adjourned until October for further legal proceedings.
Hensley, a member of the band Union J, which gained fame on The X Factor in 2012, was due to marry Marmon weeks after the tragedy. Hensley had been arrested on suspicion of murder following Marmon's death but was later released with no further action taken.
An inquest into Marmon's death concluded he died from head injuries. Prior to the incident, Marmon and Hensley had publicly shared their excitement about their upcoming wedding, having been in a relationship since 2009 and announcing their engagement in 2014.
In statements released after Marmon's death, his parents and stepfather expressed profound grief and spoke of his kind nature, talent as a hairdresser, and love for the outdoors. Hensley's spokesperson thanked well-wishers for their support and requested privacy for the families during their mourning.
