Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc Enforces New Rules to Curb Disruptive Photo Shoots

The iconic Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc on the French Riviera has implemented new regulations to restrict photo shoots and cellphone usage, aiming to protect the privacy of its guests. The measures come as the hotel observes a rise in social media-driven behavior that disrupts the experience for other visitors.

Previously a haven for luminaries such as members of the Kennedy family, Grace Kelly, Orson Welles, and Ernest Hemingway, the hotel now stipulates that photo shoots are not permitted on the property without prior management approval. Guests with specific photography requests are directed to the hotel's concierge, who can facilitate arrangements with the property's photographer if deemed appropriate.

Hotel manager Sophie Volant noted that some day guests were prioritizing photography over their dining experience. "We have a lot of loyal, repeat guests who don't see this hotel as a hotel — they see Hotel du Cap as their summer home," Volant stated, according to Travel Weekly. The report also indicated that individuals not staying at the hotel have arrived with multiple changes of clothing and accessories for extended photo sessions.

While the hotel has historically attracted a high-profile clientele, including hosting Sofia Richie Grainge's 2023 wedding, the recent surge in photo-centric activities has prompted the policy change. The hotel's website explicitly states, "To preserve the peace and privacy of all our guests, photo shoots are not permitted on the property."

The enforcement of these rules has garnered attention online, with some guests expressing support for the measures. "Those rules shouldn't need to be printed but sadly need to be," one user commented, reflecting a sentiment echoed by others who believe stricter expectations are necessary for maintaining the hotel's atmosphere.
