Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc Bans Mobile Photography Amid Influencer Overcrowding
The iconic French Riviera hotel, known for hosting global elites, has implemented stricter rules to preserve guest privacy due to a surge in social media-driven photoshoots.
The renowned Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, a luxurious Riviera resort that has historically welcomed figures such as the Kennedys, Churchills, and Windsors, has instituted a ban on mobile phone photography. This decision comes in response to an influx of influencers seeking content for social media platforms, disrupting the experience for other guests.
Sources indicate that aspiring social media personalities have been staging photo shoots throughout the hotel's grounds, dining areas, and poolside. The hotel, where accommodations can cost up to £28,000 per night, has also seen a TikTok trend involving influencers attempting to film themselves on its long-standing rope swing and ladder over the sea.
Hotel manager Sophie Volant stated that the rise in photography was impacting the ambiance, with some restaurant patrons prioritizing photos over their meals. "We have a lot of loyal, repeat guests who don't see this hotel as a hotel, they see Hotel du Cap as their summer home," Volant told Travel Weekly, emphasizing the need for a solution.
Ms. Volant also noted that individuals not staying at the hotel were arriving with multiple outfits for extensive photo sessions on the property, which has previously hosted luminaries like Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Ernest Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The hotel's website now explicitly states, "To preserve the peace and privacy of all our guests, photo shoots are not permitted." Guests with photography-related requests are advised to consult the concierge.
The hotel's visibility among influencers reportedly increased after Sofia Richie, daughter of singer Lionel Richie, held her wedding there in 2023. The establishment has long been associated with glamour and has been a favored retreat for international icons for decades.
