Honduran Migrant Accused of Attacking ICE Agents With Hammer in New Jersey
Federal charges filed against a 27-year-old suspect accused of assaulting two agents during a traffic stop.
An undocumented immigrant from Honduras faces federal charges after allegedly attacking two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents with a hammer during a traffic stop in Camden County, New Jersey, on Oct. 4.
Reinieri De Jesus Licona Amador, 27, was pulled over in Gibbsboro after a license plate check indicated he was undocumented, according to authorities. When federal agents approached his vehicle, Amador reportedly retrieved a hammer from his backseat, climbed onto the passenger door frame, and began swinging the tool at the officers.
Agents deployed pepper spray to subdue Amador. Court documents indicate that one agent felt their life flashed before their eyes during the encounter, while another stated the attack could have resulted in serious or fatal injuries.
Also present in the vehicle was another individual from Honduras who was in the U.S. illegally and had previously received a final order of removal from an immigration judge.
Amador has been charged with forcibly assaulting officers with a dangerous weapon and has been processed at the Elizabeth Detention Facility.
