Homeless Man Dies Weeks After Brutal Gas Station Attack, Family Seeks Justice

A homeless man died three weeks after sustaining critical injuries during an unprovoked attack by a group of teenagers at an Oklahoma City gas station, his family stated. The family of Brandon Liggons, 42, believes the assault was the direct cause of his death, though authorities noted pneumonia as the cause.

Liggons was seated outside a metro gas station when security footage captured three teenagers swarming and assaulting him, pushing him to the ground and repeatedly kicking and punching him. He was transported to a hospital with severe injuries, including a brain bleed. Liggons remained in the ICU for three weeks before succumbing to a lung infection.

Despite the family's assertions, police have not directly linked the teenagers to Liggons' death and stated it is unlikely to be ruled a homicide. "There is no report to provide due to nobody calling the police in reference to the assault at the scene or the hospital," an Oklahoma City police representative told The Post. Authorities indicated they were not actively investigating the assault as no crime was reported at the time.

Liggons' cousin, Grail Pendarvis, argued that the attack led to his hospitalization and subsequent complications. "After being in the hospital on a ventilator for three weeks, yeah, you get pneumonia. That’s how it works," Pendarvis said.

Family members described Liggons as a beloved individual who, despite facing struggles, had chosen to live on the streets. "He was homeless by choice, had his struggles, and found comfort in the life he knew on the streets. But beyond all of that, Brandon was a person who was loved, known, and cared about by many people," Gregory Davis, another cousin, wrote on Facebook.

Photos and videos of the alleged attackers have circulated on social media, fueling outrage and calls for accountability from community members. "Brandon was truly a very sweet soul. He would help you even when he needed help himself. I can speak on that personally," wrote local resident Atwana Twana on Facebook. "And then I see this BS … some kids jumped on him for no reason. I KNOW Brandon, and trust me, he is not the type of person to just try to harm somebody. This is wrong on so many different levels."
