A U.S. Coast Guard plane carrying Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin made an emergency landing Wednesday after experiencing an engine failure. The aircraft was en route from Georgia to Washington, D.C., when it was diverted to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Virginia.
Mullin, who was aboard a Coast Guard C101, described the landing as "routine" and praised the pilots for their professionalism. "No panic, just straight professionalism," Mullin stated on X, formerly Twitter. "After we landed, the pilots told me that was a first for them! We could not have been in better hands."
The aircraft involved in the incident is reportedly one of the Coast Guard planes flagged last year by the Department of Homeland Security due to its age.
