Hollywood Celebrity Homes Tour Promises Mansions, Delivers Trees for $50
A $50 tour through the Hollywood Hills offered glimpses of celebrity residences, but delivered more trees and fences than star-studded estates.
A $50 celebrity homes tour in Los Angeles promises a peek into the lives of the rich and famous, but a recent excursion revealed a reality of obscured views and a litany of names associated with distant properties.
The tour, which wound through the Hollywood Hills and onto Mulholland Drive, presented a guide who readily identified potential celebrity residences, often citing well-known figures such as Drew Carey, Quentin Tarantino, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, and Beyoncé and Jay-Z. However, the actual visibility of these homes was frequently limited by trees, fences, and retaining walls.
At one point, the guide pointed out a house attributed to Drew Carey, noting a tarp on the roof and a car in the driveway as evidence of occupancy. The tour continued with a rapid succession of celebrity names linked to various mansions in the distance, including Mark Wahlberg, Denzel Washington, Eddie Murphy, Samuel L. Jackson, Magic Johnson, Rod Stewart, and Sylvester Stallone. Pinpointing specific homes for each celebrity proved challenging from the moving bus.
The guide maintained a matter-of-fact demeanor throughout the tour, even sharing an anecdote about attempting to convince Al Pacino to join the bus. Despite the abundant names dropped and the well-protected properties glimpsed, the actual experience of seeing celebrity homes was largely underwhelming.
Upon returning to Hollywood Boulevard amid traffic, the tour concluded with the observation that while the bus tour offered limited direct celebrity sightings, the sidewalk offered an alternative: the Walk of Fame. The tour's overall value for $50 was called into question, with the takeaway being that more trees and protective barriers were seen than the opulent residences of stars.
