Hollywood Actress Faces Prison for Aiding Fraudster Boyfriend's Escape

Actress Lucinda Jane Weist Manera, known for her roles in "Blown Away" and "Predator 2," is facing a potential 18-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to assisting her convicted fraudster boyfriend, Bernhard Eugen Fritsch, in his escape from California to Mexico.

Prosecutors allege that Manera, 63, was under the "romantic influence of a charming, skilled liar" when she facilitated Fritsch's flight just before he was due to appear in federal court last year. According to court filings obtained by LA Magazine, Manera purchased two burner phones from Best Buy to maintain contact with Fritsch while he was on the run and paid $3,500 to an individual who then transported Fritsch from Los Angeles to Mexico.

Fritsch, a tech CEO, was convicted in April 2025 for a scheme involving his Santa Monica-based company, StarClub Inc., which prosecutors stated defrauded investors out of tens of millions of dollars. Despite being released on an $8.2 million bond pending a June 2 hearing, Fritsch fled the country.

On June 1, the man Manera allegedly paid flew to Los Angeles, rented a car, and drove Fritsch to Arizona, where he was met by another contact and taken into Sinaloa, Mexico. Prosecutors claim Manera continued to assist Fritsch in evading authorities for several months. She is accused of authorizing a $534.23 charge for a hotel in Mexico City on September 24, 2025, and the following day, Fritsch boarded a flight to Munich.

Manera had traveled to Germany on September 16, though her attorney stated she did not meet Fritsch there. She was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on September 26, shortly after Fritsch arrived in Germany. During an interview with the FBI, Manera reportedly denied knowing the individuals who helped Fritsch escape, despite prosecutors asserting she had met them and was aware of Fritsch's plans.

Fritsch's downfall followed years of maintaining a lavish lifestyle funded by the money he allegedly obtained by misleading investors about StarClub and its celebrity-focused StarSite app. He claimed the company was generating millions and was close to partnerships and buyout offers from major entertainment firms, including Disney. The company hosted events attended by celebrities, and singer Enrique Iglesias was also linked to the venture.

However, investigators found that Fritsch spent millions on personal expenses, including renovations to his Malibu mansion, a McLaren supercar, a Rolls-Royce, and a yacht. Federal authorities subsequently seized the vehicles and the yacht. One investor alone reportedly lost $22 million over two years, with total investor losses exceeding $25 million.

In October 2025, Fritsch was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in federal prison, ordered to pay a $35,000 fine, and mandated to provide $26,806,901 in restitution. His attempt to appeal his conviction was dismissed while he remained a fugitive.

The FBI has placed Fritsch on its Most Wanted Fraudster List, offering a $150,000 reward for information leading to his capture. Prosecutors stated that Fritsch is believed to be residing in Germany and may be monitoring the legal proceedings against Manera.

Manera faces a maximum of five years in federal prison, with her sentencing expected in October.
