The lone juror who prevented a verdict in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, who was accused of strangling her three children, has a history of domestic violence allegations and an active restraining order, according to a report.

The unidentified juror, a man in his 30s, was charged in September 2021 with assaulting his wife, NBC10 Boston reported. A police report obtained by the outlet indicated that the juror’s 13-year-old nephew called 911, stating that his uncle had grabbed his wife by the throat and thrown her into a dresser. The juror's mother was also quoted in the report as shouting, "You're evil!" as he was being cuffed.

This juror was the sole dissenting voice among the 11 others who found Clancy not guilty by reason of temporary insanity. Clancy had claimed she was experiencing postpartum psychosis when she killed her children Cora, 6, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home.

Legal analysts questioned how the juror, who should have disclosed these incidents on a juror questionnaire, was selected for the panel. Court records show the juror divorced his wife after the 2021 incident, and the criminal charge was dismissed. His ex-wife reportedly chose not to pursue the case fearing it could affect her custody of their daughter.

In the year prior to the trial, the same teenage nephew obtained a restraining order against the juror, alleging he had pushed him to the ground and hit him. According to an affidavit, the juror told his nephew, "You ruined my (expletive) life" for calling the police.

The restraining order remained active while the juror was part of the Clancy trial proceedings and listened to testimony over six weeks.

Additional reports indicate the juror also faces a pending eviction case for $12,000 in unpaid rent. A family member described the juror, who is estranged from his family, as a "narcissist" and expressed doubt he should have served on the jury.

Separately, another juror from the case alleged that the holdout juror mimicked the strangulation of Clancy’s children using an exercise band in the deliberation room. Juror Nick Dargie told ABC News that the holdout juror wrapped a band, similar to one Clancy allegedly used, around a water bottle. Dargie found the reenactment "disgusting" and stated the man refused to explain his dissenting vote.

Clancy, 36, is currently at Tewksbury Hospital, a state-run psychiatric facility. Her next court hearing is scheduled for September 29.
