Holdout Juror in Lindsay Clancy Mistrial Defends His Verdict Amid Backlash
Michael P. Desronvil breaks his silence, stating he had sufficient evidence to believe Lindsay Clancy was guilty of murder.
The sole juror who prevented a murder conviction for Lindsay Clancy has publicly addressed the intense backlash he faced, asserting his belief that there was sufficient evidence to find Clancy guilty of murdering her three children. Michael P. Desronvil, 48, stated that he did not have doubts about Clancy's guilt and that his attempts to discuss evidence were repeatedly cut short during deliberations.
Desronvil was the only member of the jury who did not vote to find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity, leading to a mistrial in the six-week case. Clancy admitted to killing her children in January 2023 and attempting suicide, but her defense argued she was suffering from severe postpartum depression. Prosecutors presented evidence and witness testimony that suggested premeditation.
Desronvil, a devout Christian and father from a Haitian immigrant family, has been the subject of public scrutiny since the mistrial. Online detractors and some fellow jurors questioned his decision, with speculation arising that his faith may have influenced his stance, particularly given that prosecutors referenced the concept of "mortal sin" during the trial. However, Desronvil stated in a message to News Nation that "Based on all the physical evidence, key witnesses, and what the prosecution presents, I thought it was enough proof that she [Clancy] knew exactly what she was doing and planned."
Reports emerged detailing past domestic violence allegations against Desronvil, including a 2021 arrest and a 2025 incident involving his nephew, which resulted in an active restraining order at the time of the trial. These allegations have raised questions about how he was selected for the jury. Desronvil also reportedly faced eviction proceedings for unpaid rent. His family has also reportedly been harassed by media and true-crime enthusiasts.
In response to the public attention, the judge in the Clancy case, William Sullivan, moved to block the public release of juror names. However, Desronvil reportedly left his home with his new wife days before this measure was taken, with a local mechanic stating they were "gonna lay low for a while" due to media attention.
