Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Teen Boy, Injures Sister in Los Angeles
A speeding vehicle struck and killed a 16-year-old boy and critically injured his 14-year-old sister as they crossed a street in Hyde Park, Los Angeles, with surveillance video capturing the tragic event.
A fatal hit-and-run in Los Angeles' Hyde Park neighborhood resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy and serious injuries to his 14-year-old sister. The incident occurred Tuesday night when a speeding vehicle struck the siblings as they were crossing a street, with their mother believed to have been present.
Horrifying surveillance footage documented the moment the car collided with the teenagers, followed by screams heard at the scene. The vehicle then struck a parked car before the occupants fled on foot without providing aid.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the collision happened around 9:35 p.m. on 60th Street. Investigators described the suspects as a male driver and a female passenger.
Video from the scene revealed significant damage to a blue Nissan Sentra, identified by police as the vehicle involved in the collision. The car sustained damage to its front end, including a shattered windshield.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, where a body was covered by a white sheet in the street, cordoned off by police tape. Witnesses described hearing the impact and seeing people distraught at the scene.
One local resident, Jerome Alexander, stated that the victims appeared to live in the neighborhood. "I heard the sound, we went out there and the mom was screaming," he told reporters. "I looked, I seen the other boy. I walked right here, she hit this car. [They] jumped out and was running, and a dude came back and cleaned the car out for them."
Authorities are actively investigating the incident and have not yet apprehended the suspects. The identities of the victims have not been officially released by law enforcement.
