Hillary Clinton Endorses Peggy Flanagan for Minnesota Senate Seat

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has endorsed Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan in the upcoming U.S. Senate race, marking Clinton's first endorsement of a Senate candidate for the 2026 midterm elections.

Clinton announced her support on the social media platform Bluesky, sharing Flanagan's post touting the endorsement. "Minnesota, you have an opportunity to select an extraordinary person and public servant as your next U.S. senator. Please take it!" Clinton wrote. Flanagan expressed her honor at receiving Clinton's backing, stating she would "proudly carry on her fight in the US Senate."

Clinton, who was the Democratic presidential candidate in 2016, criticized former President Donald Trump's economic policies. She stated that Trump's actions have made it harder for families to afford necessities, citing increased prices due to tariffs and his administration's budget decisions. "Donald Trump has made it harder for families to afford childcare, groceries, and health care for their kids," Clinton said in a statement.

Flanagan is running against Republican candidate Michele Tafoya for the Minnesota U.S. Senate seat, previously held by Democratic Sen. Tina Smith, who announced she would not seek re-election.

White House spokespeople responded to Clinton's endorsement, with Taylor Rogers stating that the Democratic party created the "affordability crisis" and that President Trump is addressing it through tax cuts and lowering prescription drug costs. Davis Ingle added that Trump is creating jobs and investments, while suggesting Clinton should "move on" from her 2016 election loss.
