Hilary Swank Discussed Benefits of Later Parenthood Months Before Announcing Third Pregnancy

Hilary Swank reflected on the advantages of starting a family later in life in interviews conducted months before her recent announcement that she is expecting her third child. The 52-year-old actress, who is already a mother to three-year-old twins Aya and Ohm, spoke with Women's Health magazine in late 2025 about her approach to parenting.

Swank described herself as a "different" parent than she might have been in her early 40s. "I'm much more patient. I'm much more understanding. I am much more, I think, interested in a different way than I would've been," she told the publication. She highlighted her fascination with her children's development, stating, "I'm fascinated about what makes them tick." She also noted that having an established career allowed her to be more present, saying, "I have my career that’s already established, so I’m not divided."

The Oscar winner also discussed freezing her eggs, explaining that it helped to "take some of the pressure off" when it came to starting a family. She clarified that while she didn't actively wait until age 47 to have children, it was a "magical time in my life, when it all culminated. It was the right time for a myriad of reasons."

On Wednesday, Swank and her husband, Philip Schneider, revealed they are expecting their third child through an Instagram post featuring glow sticks. Swank humorously captioned the announcement, "A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next, this one releases in December. 😉👼🏼🫶🏼."

The couple welcomed their twins in April 2023, when Swank was 48. She described the experience as "not easy" but ultimately "worth it." At the time of her twins' birth announcement, Swank had shared that she had "been waiting a long time" for motherhood.

Swank and Schneider, who have been together since 2016, married in August 2018 in Carmel, California. Swank was previously married to actor Chad Lowe from 1997 to 2007.
