Hilary Swank, 52, Reflects on Later Motherhood Ahead of Third Child's Announcement
The Oscar winner discussed the patience and presence that come with being an older parent, months before revealing her new pregnancy.
Months before announcing her pregnancy with her third child this week, actress Hilary Swank, 52, spoke about the advantages of becoming a mother later in life, emphasizing the increased patience and presence she brings to parenting.
In November, Swank shared her thoughts on late-in-life motherhood with Women's Health. "I'm a very different parent than I would've been, even in my early 40s," Swank stated. "I'm much more patient. I'm much more understanding. I am much more, I think, interested in a different way than I would've been."
She explained that with her career established, she feels less divided and more able to be a "hands-on parent." Swank, who welcomed twins Ohm and Aya with husband Philip Schneider in April 2023, revealed her pregnancy with a third child via Instagram on Wednesday. She posted a video using a TikTok dance trend, with a caption hinting at a "December release."
The actress, who announced her first pregnancy at 47, shared that while she didn't actively plan to wait, the timing felt right. "It was the right time for myriad reasons," she said. Swank also mentioned that freezing her eggs had eased some of the pressure when she was ready to expand her family.
Following the recent pregnancy announcement, Swank commented on the nature of timing, stating, "things happen in their time, not ours." Her announcement has resonated with fans, with some expressing that her experience provides them with hope for their own future family plans. Responding to a follower, Swank wrote, "It can! I always go by the adage, things happen in their time, not ours, and that has always been the case for me."
Swank and Schneider married in 2018. The twins were their first children. In February, Swank offered a rare glimpse into her family life by sharing a photo with her son Ohm on a ski trip. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2005 for her role in "Million Dollar Baby."
