Hilary Duff's Mexico Getaway Sparks Resurfacing of 'Toxic Mom Group' Drama
The actress's vacation photos with friends, including Mandy Moore, have led fans to revisit past controversy involving Ashley Tisdale.
Hilary Duff recently shared images from a girls' trip to Mexico, featuring fellow actress Mandy Moore and other friends. The vacation posts, which included photos of Duff in a yellow swimsuit on the beach, have reignited online discussions and fan speculation surrounding a past controversy involving Ashley Tisdale.
Duff posted a carousel of images on Instagram from her stay at the One&Only Mandarina resort in Riviera Nayarit. The photos depicted the group enjoying beach outings and spa treatments, with one image showing eight women posing on a terrace at sunset. Duff also shared a photo of herself in a blue two-piece swimsuit receiving a mud treatment.
The social media activity prompted comments from followers referencing a controversy that emerged earlier this year. These comments frequently alluded to a "toxic mom group" and an essay published by Ashley Tisdale in January for The Cut, titled "Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group." In the essay, Tisdale described feeling excluded from gatherings with women she considered close friends, leading her to distance herself from the group.
While Tisdale did not name individuals in her essay, online speculation quickly pointed towards Duff, Moore, and other celebrity mothers with whom Tisdale had been associated. However, a representative for Tisdale reportedly denied to TMZ that the essay was specifically about Duff, Moore, or Meghan Trainor.
Duff addressed the speculation on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, expressing that she was hurt by the unfounded associations and felt "used" by the timing of the resurfaced controversy amid a resurgence in her career. She stated that it was upsetting to read untrue claims and for them to affect other women involved.
This Mexico trip occurred shortly after Duff celebrated her 39th birthday on September 28. The accompanying online chatter has focused on the resurfacing of the drama rather than the vacation itself.
