Hilary Duff revealed to fans that her 5-year-old daughter, Mae, required stitches from an emergency room visit on the same day the singer performed her first sold-out show at Madison Square Garden.
Duff, 38, shared the family medical emergency with the crowd mid-performance Wednesday night. "My kids are here tonight," she told the audience. "I can’t believe I get to show them this. We were in the ER this morning getting some stitches for my 5-year-old."
She assured the audience that Mae is now "fine" and "all good." Duff described the situation as "very ‘our family-coded’ that I would be playing my first show at MSG and also be in the emergency room getting my kid stitched up." During the concert, she gave Mae a shoutout, calling her "very brave."
Duff is a mother of four. She shares daughters Mae, Banks, 7, and Townes, 1, with husband Matthew Koma, and son Luca, 14, from her previous marriage to Mike Comrie.
Previously, Duff has spoken about balancing motherhood and her career. In February, she discussed on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast how she strives to prioritize her personal passions outside of parenting, acknowledging the guilt that can come with being a working mother. "When you have kids, you become all consumed by them, and they get your everything," she said, adding, "It was important for me to not let that be a factor." She also noted the need to "choose yourself" and occasionally take breaks, humorously mentioning having a "dirty martini" instead of staying home.
Duff is currently on the US leg of her "Lucky Me" tour, which is scheduled to conclude later this month in Michigan. Following the US dates, she will continue the tour internationally, with the final stop in Guadalajara, Mexico, in February 2027. She announced the tour earlier this year, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to perform on stage again.
