A police chase involving a reportedly stolen Mercedes-Benz SUV concluded Tuesday evening with multiple arrests in downtown Los Angeles after the vehicle weaved through traffic at high speeds across freeways and city streets. The pursuit began shortly before 6 p.m. when officers attempted to stop the white SUV, which authorities indicated may have been stolen from the Laguna Beach area and potentially involved an armed suspect.
Video footage captured the SUV using the right shoulder of the southbound 405 Freeway to bypass traffic before exiting into the Del Rey neighborhood. The vehicle then continued on surface streets, running red lights, swerving between cars, and entering oncoming lanes as police followed.
A notable moment occurred on the northbound 110 Freeway when the fleeing driver encountered a large group of dirt bike riders. Several riders were observed performing wheelies while passing the SUV, creating a hazardous situation as the suspect merged back into freeway traffic with law enforcement in close proximity.
The chase ended just before 6:30 p.m. when the SUV pulled into a parking structure near Hill and Eighth streets in downtown Los Angeles. Officers quickly surrounded the area. Police confirmed that multiple occupants of the SUV were taken into custody, though they continued searching for at least one additional suspect believed to have fled the structure.
Despite the reckless nature of the pursuit, which occurred during the evening commute and spanned busy freeways and streets, no major injuries were immediately reported. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released the identities of those detained or announced potential criminal charges.
