HGTV personalities Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson are reportedly furious after becoming the targets of a "dangerous" online scam that is circulating "fake and malicious" rumors about them on social media. The couple, known for their show "Married to Real Estate," addressed the situation in an Instagram video on Sunday.
Sherrod, 49, stated that despite past warnings, some individuals continue to believe unsubstantiated stories. "If you don't hear it from us first, it didn't happen. It's not true," she emphasized. The couple has been actively trying to have a specific Facebook page, which they identified as the source of the misinformation, taken down.
"When I say the damage that they are doing and the thousands of people that are believing the stories... I mean, literally, my children asked me if I had cancer because the story has traveled so far and wide, and it's made-up," Sherrod explained, highlighting the personal impact of the false narratives.
The Facebook page in question, which claims to be based in Fresno, California, and has amassed over six thousand followers, features fabricated posts attributed to Sherrod. One particularly harmful rumor falsely quoted Sherrod as suggesting that children's cartoons should not include LGBTQ+ themes, a claim Sherrod refuted as "dangerous." She urged followers to help by reporting the page and similar accounts on Facebook as fake and malicious.
This incident follows a period of change for the couple, whose show "Married to Real Estate" was canceled by HGTV last year. The program, which premiered in 2022, documented their professional and personal lives as they assisted clients with home purchases and renovations in Atlanta, Georgia. The show concluded its fourth season in May 2025, with its third season having attracted 16.6 million viewers.
Sherrod previously stated that the cancellation news came as a surprise while the couple was on vacation. In a joint statement on social media, she shared, "Mike and I just landed back in the States after an unforgettable family trip through the Mediterranean, and we're met with unexpected news: HGTV has decided not to move forward with Married to Real Estate."
Despite the show's conclusion, Sherrod and her husband, 48, continue their real estate and renovation ventures through their company, Indigo Road. They expressed gratitude for the "four incredible seasons," their crew, and their supporters, noting that their businesses remain strong.
