Hero Dad Fatally Shoots Oregon School Shooter During Lunch Break
A father of two, armed with a concealed weapon, intervened in a deadly rampage at Silver Rail Elementary.
A father intervened in a deadly school shooting at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, on Thursday, fatally shooting the teenage gunman during his lunch break, according to reports.
Kaylub Giamanco, 36, a carpenter and father of two girls who attend the elementary school, was driving home for lunch when he heard gunshots. He then entered the school building and pursued the shooter, identified as 16-year-old John J. Griffin, into a special education room, where Giamanco shot and killed him.
Griffin had entered the school armed with his mother's pump-action shotgun and killed three children, aged 5, 8, and 11, and a teacher. Authorities credit Giamanco's actions with saving additional lives.
Despite being hailed as a hero, Giamanco reportedly does not wish to speak out. His brother, Kyle Giamanco, told NBC News that Kaylub Giamanco feels guilt for not being able to save more people and does not consider himself a hero.
