Hero Dad Crawled Through School Window to Stop Oregon Shooter, Mother Says
Kaylub Giamaco confronted the 16-year-old gunman, identified as Griffin John, after hearing gunshots at Silver Rail Elementary School.
A father of two, Kaylub Giamaco, is credited with stopping the gunman at Silver Rail Elementary School in Oregon by army crawling through a shattered window and confronting the shooter, according to his mother. Giamaco, who was on his lunch break, heard gunshots and saw the 16-year-old gunman, identified as Griffin John, entering the school.
Kenda Freeman, Giamaco’s mother, told CBS News that her son acted quickly upon realizing the danger. "My son knew something was not right, so he pulled up onto the grass, grabbed his gun and basically stalked the gunman back into the school," she said. "He crawled through a window that the gunman had shot out. He army crawled through the window."
In a phone call to his mother immediately following the confrontation, Giamaco reported, "Mom, I just shot and killed somebody. A man went into my daughters’ school and shot kids and I looked at him point-blank, and I shot and killed him, Mom."
The shooter, Griffin John, killed four people: three students—5-year-old Rhoam Summer, an 8-year-old, and an 11-year-old—and 25-year-old teacher Megan Lambert. The motive for the attack remains under investigation by authorities.
