Hero Dad and Fallen Teacher Identified in Oregon Elementary School Shooting

Police in Bend, Oregon, identified 36-year-old Kaylub Gianmarco as the individual who "neutralized" the shooter at Silver Rail Elementary School on Thursday, an incident that resulted in the deaths of three children and a teacher.

Meghan Lambert, 25, was identified as the teacher killed in the shooting. Among the youngest victims was 5-year-old Rhoam Summer.

"Meghan was compassionate and had a huge heart. She always fought for the underdog and those with special needs. She was an incredible sister, daughter, niece and granddaughter. Her friends became her family," Lambert's family said in a statement read at a news conference Friday.

Gianmarco, a local carpenter and father of two daughters who attend Silver Rail, intervened in the attack, according to Kenda Freeman, who identified Gianmarco as her son. His brother, Kyle Gianmarco, told NBC News that Kaylub is shaken by the event and does not wish to speak publicly.

"We want the bystander who intervened to know we know he is going through a rough time, but we are grateful and we think he is a hero," Lambert's family stated. "You selflessly put yourself at risk for others. We would like the other families to know they are in our thoughts and prayers. Megan loved those children and so we will show you love for her."

Three students, aged 5, 8, and 11, were also killed in the shooting.
