Hermès Handbags Valued at $300,000 Stolen in Los Angeles Home Invasion
Thieves bypassed security measures to steal a significant portion of a collector's luxury handbag inventory.
A collection of Hermès Birkin handbags valued between $250,000 and $300,000 was stolen from a Los Angeles home on Monday. The owner, Patricia Vuagniaux, a collector and authenticator of luxury bags, believes the thieves specifically targeted her.
Vuagniaux reported that the burglars gained access to her home while she was at a doctor's appointment. The thieves reportedly circumvented her Ring camera system, bypassed reinforced windows, and forced open a lock on her bedroom closet to steal approximately 20 high-value handbags. The stolen items also included watches and a jewelry box containing her daughter's baby teeth.
According to Vuagniaux, the thieves may have used a signal jammer, as even her neighbor's cameras were affected during the incident. She noted the burglars used a fitted sheet from her bedroom to carry the stolen items.
"They were strategic enough to avoid the Ring camera in the front so they came through the side. They knew exactly what they were doing," Vuagniaux told ABC7. She provided videos showing her ransacked closet and broken glass.
Vuagniaux, who retired from her coffee business, developed a passion for collecting luxury handbags. She had previously posted a list of a portion of her collection on Facebook within a luxury handbag group, which included various Birkin and Kelly bags. Upon learning this, she expressed regret, stating, "I never thought of that. I’m such an idiot."
She described the stolen collection as her retirement fund and expressed feeling unsafe in her home following the burglary. Vuagniaux stated that she is "so scared" and "so afraid to be in my home," though she confirmed her husband and daughter were not present during the incident and are safe.
