Henry Winkler, who portrayed Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli on the beloved sitcom "Happy Days," recently shared an anecdote about a guest star whose ego clashed with the cast's collaborative spirit. Winkler recounted that during the show's run, "on our set, there was no stardom." He explained that the ensemble cast worked diligently to create humor each week, but one guest, who appeared multiple times, consistently disrupted this dynamic.
According to Winkler, this unnamed actor would frequently mention his fan mail. When Winkler attempted to steer the conversation away, emphasizing the show's collaborative nature with the phrase, "we are all here as one," the guest star persisted. Winkler ultimately described the individual as an "a--back" for his persistent behavior, noting that the character he played was named Eugene.
"Happy Days" aired for 11 seasons from 1974 to 1984. Following his breakout role on the series, Winkler has maintained a prolific career in film and television, earning accolades including a Golden Globe nomination for "Heroes" and roles in "The Waterboy" and "Holes."
More recently, Winkler experienced a new on-set challenge filming his first nude scene for the third season of the television series "Loot." He described the experience of filming in cold January weather on a beach for a scene involving his co-star Maya Rudolph, whom he greatly admires. "I was in shock," Winkler stated, referring to the frigid conditions, "But then I was with Maya and her wonderful cast."
Winkler received his first Emmy Award in 2018 for his performance in the show "Barry," where he played an acting coach. Reflecting on his career, he shared advice for aspiring actors: "Be yourself, be honest about your ability, prepare so that you are not a flash in the pan."
