Helicopter and Drone Narrowly Avoid Mid-Air Collision Over Ole Miss-LSU Game
Spectators expressed concern on social media after witnessing a drone and a helicopter fly in dangerously close proximity before kickoff.
A helicopter and a camera drone appeared to have a near mid-air collision over Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, on Saturday before the Ole Miss-LSU football game. The incident occurred as ESPN was broadcasting aerial footage of the stadium.
Social media users, including one identifying as a helicopter pilot, voiced their unease about the proximity of the two aircraft. "Hard to judge the actual separation from this camera angle, but that helicopter and drone look too close for my comfort," one post stated. Another user commented, "I saw that. Now you are telling me it was real. Man. Thank God nothing bad happened."
The close call follows a recent fatal helicopter crash in Los Angeles that killed three people. However, no adverse event occurred between the helicopter and the drone at the Ole Miss-LSU game.
The game itself saw Ole Miss defeat LSU with a final score of 32-24, marking a victory for the home team over former Mississippi coach Lane Kiffin, who was coaching the Tigers.
