Helena Bonham Carter Cited for Cycling Through Red Light in London
The actress was photographed running a red light on her electric bike in central London, potentially facing a fine.
Helena Bonham Carter was observed cycling through a red traffic light in central London on Friday. The 60-year-old actress was riding a £2,990 Voltaire Rivoli electric city bike. She also had a £39 Victorian classic basket attached to the front.
Bonham Carter was wearing a £79 ocean edition helmet by Dashel, a design intended to promote marine conservation. Her attire included a plaid jacket over a blue cardigan, semi-sheer pantaloon trousers, and Roger Vivier leather sandals.
Transport for London regulations stipulate that cyclists must stop at red traffic lights. Failure to do so can result in a £50 fixed penalty notice. The UK Highway Code requires cyclists to obey all red traffic lights at standard junctions and pedestrian/cycle crossings, unless a dedicated green cycle signal permits otherwise. Enforcement in London has increased, with police issuing over 1,300 notices for traffic and safety violations in a single year.
Representatives for Helena Bonham Carter have been contacted for comment.
Bonham Carter was previously in a relationship with director Tim Burton and is currently with art historian Rye Dag Holmboe, whom she met at a mutual friend's wedding. She has stated that she does not believe in marriage and cannot make promises for forever.
