Helen Mirren, 81, attended the London premiere of "MobLand" season two on Thursday, sharing the red carpet with co-star Tom Hardy, 48. The appearance comes after Mirren publicly defended Hardy amid reports of significant tension between the actor and production during the filming of the crime drama.
Mirren, who plays Maeve Harrigan in the Paramount+ series, was seen posing amicably with Hardy at the event. She wore a silver sequined Jenny Packham gown, while Hardy opted for a more casual white shirt featuring a depiction of "The Tower of Babel" by Wilhelm von Kaulbach, paired with Rogue & Sons trousers.
The premiere marked a public reunion for the cast following controversy surrounding Hardy's on-set behavior. Reports in May suggested clashes with producers and disagreements over the show's direction, leading to speculation about his departure. However, "MobLand" producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser are reportedly working through creative differences with Hardy, with season three set to begin production this autumn.
Mirren, reprising her role alongside Hardy, Lara Pulver, Mandeep Dhillon, and Teddie Allen, has openly supported her co-star. She previously posted an Instagram message of support and stated she would work with him again. "You do learn certain things as you get older about how to work with people," Mirren told Radio Times. "What you learn is every single person is different; every single person has their own way of doing things."
She emphasized the importance of creative freedom, adding, "What you want is what's on the screen, or what's on the stage, to be great. And the only way to do that is for everyone to feel that they can be free to create and explore and experiment and f*** up." Mirren noted that she herself has "endlessly" made mistakes.
"MobLand" season two continues the story of Harry Da Souza, played by Hardy, who is navigating dangerous factions and attempting to prevent the Harrigan operation from collapsing. The series centers on the power couple Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan and Mirren respectively, as they face challenges to their criminal empire from new rivals.
Also in attendance were Pierce Brosnan, who plays Conrad Harrigan, and Laura Pulver, who stars as a rival. Other guests included Emmett J Scanlan, Millie Mackintosh, Roxy Horner, Thomas Tuchel, Nadiya Bychkova, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, Guy Ritchie, and Jacqui Ainsley.
