Dame Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy demonstrated their continued camaraderie at the BGC Group Charity Day in London on Friday, one day after their public reunion at the "MobLand" season two premiere. The joint appearance followed reports of significant tension between Hardy and production during filming for the Paramount+ series.
At the charity event, held in London on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Mirren and Hardy posed for photographs and shared another hug. The annual event, which honors the 658 BGC Group employees lost in the 2001 attacks, aims to raise millions for various charities. Since its inception, the event has generated over $234 million for approximately 1,000 charities globally. Celebrities, including Mirren and Hardy, participated by making phone calls and engaging in financial trades with clients on the trading floor, with all revenue from the day directed to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and other charitable organizations.
Mirren, who was raising funds for Denville Hall, a care home for retired actors and creative industry professionals, appeared alongside Hardy, who was dressed in his signature casual style. Other notable attendees included singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock, comedian Leigh Francis, and sports figures Karen Carney, Matt Dawson, and Lord Ian Botham.
During the "MobLand" season two premiere on Thursday, Mirren and Hardy's hug was analyzed by body language expert Judi James, who suggested their interaction appeared to be a form of "psychological warfare." James described their pose as resembling a face-off between boxers, noting Hardy's "gentleman's hands" placement and Mirren's seemingly restrained posture.
Despite the scrutiny of their premiere appearance, Mirren has publicly defended Hardy, stating that individuals should be "free to f*** up." She has repeatedly shown support for her co-star, including an Instagram post expressing her affection and a public declaration that she would work with him again "in a heartbeat."
Reports of friction during the filming of "MobLand" season two had previously fueled speculation about Hardy's future on the show. However, subsequent claims suggest that Hardy, alongside producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser, are resolving creative differences, with plans to commence shooting for season three.
