Dame Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy, stars of the Paramount+ series "MobLand," demonstrated a show of friendship at the BGC Group Charity Day in London on Friday, September 11, 2026. This appearance came a day after their red carpet reunion at the "MobLand" season two premiere was analyzed as potentially strained.

Mirren has publicly defended Hardy amidst reports of significant tension between him and the production during the filming of "MobLand" season two. Despite these reports, Mirren and Hardy posed for photos and shared hugs at the charity event, which raises funds for numerous causes on the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

The annual BGC Group Charity Day, held in memory of 658 BGC Group employees lost in the September 11 attacks, has raised over $234 million for approximately 1,000 charities globally since its inception. Celebrities, including Mirren and Hardy, participated by making phone calls and conducting financial trades with clients on the trading floor at the company's Canary Wharf offices. All of the day's global revenues were donated to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and other selected charities.

Dame Helen, who was raising money for Denville Hall, a care home for retired actors and creative industry professionals, shared another hug with Hardy before they began their work. While Mirren wore a black blazer, Hardy opted for a more casual green t-shirt. They were joined by other celebrities such as singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock, comedian Leigh Francis, and sports figures Karen Carney, Matt Dawson, and Lord Ian Botham.

This public display of camaraderie followed an assessment by body language expert Judi James, who described the pair's interaction at the previous night's premiere as resembling "psychological warfare." James noted their pose after a hug appeared like a "face-off heavyweight boxers perform" and that Mirren seemed keen to end the embrace.

Reports of tension during the filming of "MobLand" season two had previously led to claims that Hardy might depart the show. However, it has since been reported that Hardy and producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser are working through creative differences to potentially begin shooting a third season. Mirren has previously expressed her support for Hardy, stating that people should be "free to f*** up" and that she would work with him again "in a heartbeat."
