Helen Jenner Tapped to Lead Reform Wales Amidst Leader's Arrest
Sources indicate Helen Jenner is the favored candidate to succeed Dan Thomas as Reform Wales leader following his arrest on suspicion of assault.
Reform Wales is poised to appoint its deputy leader, Helen Jenner, as the new head of the party in Wales, according to sources speaking to BBC Wales. Jenner, an MS for Bangor Conwy Môn, is reportedly the leading candidate to replace Dan Thomas, who resigned after being arrested and bailed on suspicion of assault and controlling coercive behavior.
The party's Senedd group is scheduled to convene on Thursday morning to determine the process for selecting a new leader, with a decision on whether a formal vote is required or if an appointment can be made directly.
Thomas, who maintains his innocence, has not been suspended by the party and continues to serve as the Member of the Senedd for Casnewydd Islwyn.
James Evans, the party's spokesperson for health, had previously stated he held majority support within the Senedd group. However, he has decided not to stand for the leadership after discussions with his family.
Should more than one candidate emerge, the Reform MSs are expected to cast secret ballots. The party membership will not be involved in this selection process.
