Real estate heiress Arielle Spencer, whose $2 million Aspen wedding in March 2022 was reportedly plagued by issues, has announced her engagement to former NHL player Joffrey Lupul. The couple welcomed a daughter last summer and shared their engagement news on April 7.
The March 2022 wedding to Caleb Hodge, a real estate agent, took place at the Little Nell resort. According to a lawsuit filed by Spencer's father, billionaire developer Craig Spencer, against Alchemy Concert Systems and wedding planner Mindy Weiss, the event suffered from a malfunctioning sound system, cold food, and a disruption to a Jewish tradition. The lawsuit, which was later dismissed at Spencer's request, alleged that the sound system issues caused delays, leading to a shortened cocktail hour and a late reception entrance for the bride and groom. The 12-piece band flown in from Los Angeles reportedly never played, and rapper Nelly had to cut his set short due to event-ending time restrictions.
Spencer and Hodge's marriage lasted just over a year. The couple separated on May 1, 2023, and Spencer filed for divorce 24 days later, citing irreconcilable differences. Their divorce was finalized in October 2023. Financial disclosures in the divorce filing indicated Spencer retained assets valued at $11.5 million, including a Los Angeles mansion, jewelry, and a Porsche, while Hodge's assets totaled approximately $148,000. Spencer has since removed evidence of their relationship from her online profiles.
Spencer, now 36, has been publicly sharing her relationship with Lupul, a former player for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, and Philadelphia Flyers. Their engagement reportedly took place while snowboarding in Aspen. The couple's social media features photos of their travels and family life with their daughter. Lupul has expressed his happiness with Spencer, calling her the 'best partner, friend, mother.'
Meanwhile, other members of the Spencer family have also recently celebrated weddings. Spencer's younger sister, Taylor Spencer, married marketing mogul Claude Zdanow in Provence, France, last month. Their wedding featured fireworks, floral displays, and live music. Their brother, Maxwell Spencer, married Jessica in January at an undisclosed tropical location.
