Heir to Hamptons Developer Sued for $7 Million After Allegedly Running Over Tourist

A $7 million lawsuit has been filed against Jack Farrell, the 21-year-old son of a wealthy Hamptons developer, accusing him of driving his truck over a Spanish tourist sunbathing on a beach.

Pablo Ibanez Fernandez and his brother Alberto filed the complaint in the Eastern District of New York on September 18. They allege that on August 18, Jack Farrell was driving his 2023 Ford pickup truck on West Scott Cameron Beach in Bridgehampton when he struck Pablo and narrowly missed Alberto.

The lawsuit states the incident was caused by "wanton and reckless conduct" by the defendants, representing "a high degree of immorality and conduct as to imply a criminal indifference to civil obligations."

Pablo Ibanez Fernandez reportedly suffered "serious permanent personal injuries," including multiple fractures, and has incurred over $75,000 in lost wages. He is expected to require ongoing medical care. Alberto Ibanez Fernandez, while not physically injured, claims he was within the "zone of danger" and suffered emotional harm due to fear for his safety.

The brothers are seeking $3 million in compensatory damages, $3 million in punitive damages, and $1 million for legal fees. The lawsuit names Jack Farrell and his father's company, Farrell Building, as defendants. The complaint alleges that Farrell Building owned and operated the truck involved in the incident.

Jack Farrell is the son of Joe Farrell, a real estate developer known for constructing numerous large homes in the Hamptons, often referred to as 'McMansions.' Joe Farrell founded Farrell Building in 1995 after a career as a Wall Street trader. His company has developed an estimated 400 luxury homes in the Hamptons.

Joe Farrell has also been involved in political events, hosting a fundraiser for then-President Donald Trump at his property known as 'Sandcastle' in 2019. The property has also been rented by celebrities. Farrell has expanded his development interests to South Florida, reportedly securing a $49 million mortgage in August for a development project in Palm Beach.

In addition to the current lawsuit, Joe Farrell is also facing a separate lawsuit from investors who accuse him of misusing funds and exaggerating an environmental issue. He has denied these accusations, stating that no funds were misallocated.

Representatives for the plaintiffs' lawyers, Jack Farrell, and Farrell Building have been contacted for comment. The company has not yet responded to the civil complaint regarding the alleged accident.
