Tennessee congressional candidate Heidi Kuhn has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home after a car crash left her injured and shaken.
Kuhn, 57, shared an update on her condition in a Facebook post Monday, stating she remains stunned that the wreck did not result in more serious injuries. "After seeing pictures of the car, it's hard to believe our injuries weren't worse. We are still processing what happened and feel incredibly grateful to be here," Kuhn wrote. "Your love and support mean so much to us."
Her campaign confirmed Saturday that Kuhn, a mother of four, had been discharged and was continuing her recovery at home. The campaign stated that Kuhn was overwhelmed by the messages of support she received and wanted everyone to know how grateful she is for the thoughts, prayers, and kind messages. Her team also requested privacy as she heals.
Kuhn is running in Tennessee's 8th congressional district against Republican David Kustoff. The seat is considered safely Republican by the Cook Political Report. Kuhn previously served as the Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk for eight years.
In a separate incident this week, former Congresswoman Mary Peltola, who is seeking the U.S. Senate seat in Alaska, was also involved in a car crash. Peltola and her loved ones were traveling to the Alaska Federation of Natives' annual banquet when another driver struck their car. Her campaign manager stated that Peltola sustained minor injuries and was taking time to recover as advised by medical professionals. Several planned campaign stops have been rescheduled, and her Alaska Always tour has been delayed.
