Their diverging paths follow reports that Waters ended her engagement with Heeney after he was linked to an incident in August. Heeney and several teammates were stood down by the Sydney Swans club for attending a party where strippers were present at a Melbourne hotel. This event followed the team's victory over Essendon.

The three dancers who attended the party later filed police complaints alleging sexual assault. While no charges have been laid, the women have reportedly engaged civil lawyers. The club's suspensions for the players were related to breaches of conduct, including drinking and bringing women back to hotel rooms, and were separate from the police investigation.
