Heather Rae El Moussa, a star of the reality television series "Selling Sunset," has responded to a fan's comment about her financial status during an Instagram Q&A session. The fan's question, "How does it feel to never have to worry about money?" prompted El Moussa to defend her millionaire status, which is estimated by Celebrity Net Worth to be $3 million and by StyleCaster to be $15 million.
"I think that's a very unfair, rude question," El Moussa stated in a video response, "but I'm glad that you asked because I'm sure other people just assume things about me as well, and my husband."
El Moussa, who married Tarek El Moussa in 2021, described her upbringing as coming from a working-class family with limited financial resources. She shared that her father worked long hours as a truck driver, often leaving early in the morning and returning late at night to support the family. Her mother worked as a hairdresser and later as a librarian at an elementary school to be more present in her daughters' lives.
"Tarek's family came from another country and started their lives here, and built everything fresh, from scratch," El Moussa added, referring to her husband's background. "So we didn't come from money. Tarek and I both, together and separately have worked very hard to get to where we are today."
Heather is stepmother to Tarek's two children from his previous marriage, Taylor, 15, and Brayden, 11. The couple also shares a three-year-old son, Tristan.
In a separate incident last month, the family's Newport Beach home, valued at $5 million, was burglarized while they were on vacation. Following the break-in, the couple released a joint statement on Instagram expressing their distress over the loss of "irreplaceable family heirlooms and special memories." El Moussa later posted on Instagram Stories, thanking followers for their support and stating that the family was prioritizing their safety and returning to their routine.
El Moussa first gained recognition as an original cast member of "Selling Sunset," which premiered on Netflix in 2019. She has since appeared with her husband on the HGTV series "The Flip Off."
